The stuff people actually ask us, about the site, the rating system, the Scoop Score, submissions, and how to work with us.
A community-driven race and training resource for everyday athletes.
There's a difference between our race listings (a broad, growing directory) and our editorially featured races (a smaller set we highlight for reasons beyond just ratings, see "How does the rating system work?" and our featured-race approach below). Community rating is one input into what gets featured, not the only one.
Medals, not stars. Every rating question on The Race Scoop uses the same four levels, worst to best:
💩 Dookie, would not recommend, straight up.
🥉 Bronze, below average.
🥈 Silver, good, solid, would do it again.
🥇 Gold, best of the best.
Head to Rate Your Race to see it in action.
The Scoop Score is the number your medals add up to.
When you review a race, you rate the parts of that race weekend that actually applied to you: the race overall, sleep at the hotel, distance to the start, distance from the airport, crowd support, organization and communication, whether it was worth the money, medic and nutrition support on course, and the expo. Each medal is worth a number. Dookie is 1, Bronze is 2, Silver is 3, Gold is 4.
We average the ones you answered and show you the result to one decimal place, on a 1.0 to 4.0 scale. Questions you skipped are left out of the math entirely, they are not counted as zeros. If you flew in and never touched a hotel, skipping the hotel questions will not drag your score down.
That number is your Scoop Score, and it gets stored with your review.
It is where this is going, and we want to be straight with you: it is not live yet.
As enough verified athlete reviews stack up for a single race, those individual Scoop Scores can be combined into one Community Scoop Score for that race, so you can see at a glance what actual athletes thought of it rather than what the race's own marketing says.
Right now we are collecting the scores. We are not publishing an average, and we are not going to publish one off a handful of reviews and call it the community's verdict. When it goes live, we will say so here.

Site updates and directory reviews are generally handled monthly.
We cannot implement everything. We consider community demand, relevance, accuracy, value, resources, and our ability to maintain the information over time.
